Christmas Party Ideas for Small Teams: Why an Escape Room Works
An escape room is one of the easiest Christmas parties to organise for a small team. It takes about an hour, everyone takes part, nobody has to make a speech, and it pairs neatly with dinner or drinks afterwards. Whatever the size of your team, Escape will find an option that works, at venues across the UK and Ireland.
Why it beats another meal out
- Everyone joins in. Puzzles need different skills, so the quiet planner and the loud ideas person both matter
- It's a shared story. "We got out with 40 seconds left" lasts longer than another three-course menu
- It's short. One hour, then on to food and drinks nearby
- It works for mixed groups. No physical challenge, no drinking required, suitable for all ages from 7 up
How it works for a team
Rooms hold 2 to 6 players. For a bigger team we run several rooms at the same time, so 12 people might play in two or three rooms and compare times at the end. A friendly race between rooms is usually the highlight. Your games host briefs everyone, watches over the game and gives hints if a team gets stuck.
Christmas option: our Christmas room, The Great Christmas Lock-Up, runs from 20 November to 4 January at Edinburgh, Hull, York, Peterborough, Colchester, Dublin, Newcastle and London. Larger groups play it alongside our other rooms.
Planning checklist
- Count heads first. Divide by 4 to 6 to see how many rooms you need
- Pick a date early. December Thursday and Friday evenings go first
- Book all rooms for the same start time so teams finish together
- Plan the after-party. Book food or drinks nearby for straight after
- Encourage fancy dress. Christmas jumpers make the team photos
